Somerset residents are being called on by the Department of Energy and Climate Change to come forward and give their views on nuclear power.The invitation comes after the government confirmed that Hinkley Point as a potential site to build a new energy plant.Officials hope the move will lead the way for the construction of more low-carbon energy sources to help tackle climate change.Energy and climate change minister Lord Hunt said: "As we head towards a global agreement to tackle climate change the UK needs to transform its energy sector, replacing old infrastructure with high tech, low carbon energy sources."Nuclear power provides reliable, cost-effective and low-carbon energy and will play a vital role, alongside renewable and clean coal in a secure energy mix for the UK."Lord Hunt added that the low-carbon building would not only be beneficial for the environment but also the local economy as it could create up to 9,000 new jobs in the region during its construction.http://nds.coi.gov.uk/content/detail.aspx?NewsAreaId=2&Re...
