A new centre to develop renewable and low carbon energy technologies will be built in Cheshire, it has emerged.The specialist building - the Capenhurst Energy Innovation Centre - is set to provide support for smaller firms that are interested in developing renewable energy solutions.Last week, the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) announced that it would provide a £1.5 million grant to the centre, which is expected to create around 60 new jobs and 18 new small business start-ups during the next five years.Mark Hughes, the NWDA's executive director for enterprise and skills, claimed that the new centre will "help to ensure that the north-west remains at the forefront of energy solutions", adding that he hopes the centre will work to "tackle key issues such as climate change".UK Trade & Investment reported today that partners in the project include CE Electricity, ScottishPower and Electricity North West, all of which will provide funding to renewable energy development projects conducted at the centre.
