Brixton to become low carbon zone Several green projects in Brixton are to go ahead as a result of funding announced by Boris Johnson last week.

The London borough is one of ten that are being made into low carbon zones with the help of an investment from the mayor and City Hall.

Each local area will receive a grant of £200,000 to boost energy efficiency in households, encourage residents to cut their carbon emissions and create hundreds of 'green collar' jobs.

Sally Prentice, cabinet member for environment on Lambeth Council, said that Brixton and the local authority are planning to "raise [their] game" in the fight against climate change.

"Cutting people's fuel consumption by making their homes more energy efficient saves them money, which is vital for families on low incomes," she added.

"This funding will help support a range of important projects that will make Brixton a flagship low carbon area and build on the fantastic work already being done by the council."
