Cheshire MP welcomes recycling targets

13 February 2008

Cheshire MP welcomes recycling targets An MP in Cheshire has pledged his support for the government's new recycling targets, which have been designed to cut down on carbon dioxide emissions in the UK.

The Flintshire Chronicle reported that David Hanson welcomed the new targets, claiming they recognise the role businesses and consumers can play in tackling climate change.

"I am keen for the UK government to continue to work closely with the Welsh Assembly, Flintshire County Council and others to develop the right package of measures to help us meet these recycling targets," he said.

He added that overall recovery targets of 72 per cent this year, which are set to increase one percentage point each year until 2010, will help the UK meet its EU target to recycle a minimum of 60 per cent of its packaged waste, as well as the 2006 Waste Strategy for England.

Last year's waste strategy reported that the amount of waste sent to landfills in the UK decreased by nine per cent between 2000 and 2005.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18466607-ADNFCR

Discuss   UK AWARE sponsors do not necessarily need to be from a 'green' industry. They do, however, need to have a genuine concern for environmental matters and conduct business in an appropriate manner.
