"Low Carbon Man" to reduce emissions for Lent

08 February 2008

Charity worker Ben Clowney will become "Low Carbon Man" next week as he attempts to reduce his carbon emissions by around 95 per cent.

According to Inspire magazine, Mr Clowney is undertaking the challenge as part of the Tearfund Carbon Fast For Lent scheme, which encourages people to make one energy-saving action each day.

Taking the idea of the scheme to an extreme, Ben plans to cut carbon emissions by moving out of his house into a tent - pitched in his parking space at work.

He is likely to produce the same amount of carbon emissions in one week that the average Malawian farmer will produce in one month, according to his MySpace page.

During his week as Low Carbon Man, Mr Clowney will forgo driving his car for riding a bicycle and will purchase locally-sourced vegetables from farmers' markets.

He also claims he may try "canoeing down the river to see his friends", he said.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18461179-ADNFCR
