The European Union (EU) has launched a new mobile phone application allowing users to track their carbon footprint.Named mobGAS, the technology allows people to monitor their environmental impact as they take place in a number of daily activities including travelling and cooking.Anyone choosing to use the service can then log their daily, weekly and yearly emissions on a secure website, allowing them to compare their carbon footprint with both national and world averages, the Press Association reported.A European Commission spokeswoman told the site, "This is a great idea for people who want to see what impact they are having on the planet. This is not an environmental spy - just something individuals can use if they wish to.""Lifestyle and consumer choices are key, so it is important that people are aware of the implications of their personal choices."The application is available for free download to mobile phones via the European Union website, and is set to be demonstrated by EU scientists at the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bali.
