A new hydrogen energy and research facility has been opened in south Wales to demonstrate the benefits of using hydrogen technology in renewable energy.The £2.2 million Baglan Energy Park Hydrogen Demonstration project has been developed as a result of a partnership between the University of Glamorgan and Neath Port Talbot Council.It is aimed at showcasing Wales as a centre for the generation of energy through indigenous renewable sources, such as solar and wind power, and for the production of hydrogen.Rhodri Morgan, Welsh first minister, opened the centre at a ceremony today and told New Energy Focus that "the potential for developing new industry associated with hydrogen energy is massive"."This centre is also intended to be a platform for new business growth in this exciting new technology," continued Mr Morgan."The location of the centre has been specifically chosen for this purpose, enabling new and related businesses to collaborate with the university at the centre and to develop their businesses at the same time," he added.Mr Morgan also drove to the ceremony in a special version of Nissan's X-Trail, which is powered by a fuel cell and uses hydrogen as fuel.http://news.glam.ac.uk/news/en/2008/oct/08/uks-first-hydrogen-demonstration-centre-opens/
