Car cuts carbon and water bottle waste The Kiyora concept car showcased by Mazda is a low emissions car by today's standards, though it stands out for a unique system of rainwater harvesting.

As well as helping the car cut through air resistance – the body creates 20 per cent less drag than Mazda's current city car – the roof of the car channels rainwater into an activated carbon filter.

The water passes into a filtering drinks bottle designed by Lifesaver systems - called the bottle citi - which removes microbiological contamination.

Having its own supply of water means that the car's passengers need not buy bottled water.

Michael Pritchard, inventor and also chief executive of Lifesaver Systems, told EADT24 that bottled water was just "wrong".

He added: "I look forward to the Lifesaver bottle citi going into production and preventing millions of tonnes of plastic water bottles being dumped each year into landfill."
