Carbon cutting transport website celebrates 10th anniversary

15 August 2008

Carbon cutting transport website celebrates 10th anniversary A company which has contributed to cutting road transport carbon is planning to move into carbon neutral headquarters as it celebrates a decade in operation.

Liftshare.com, which is a website that connects travellers and drivers going to the same location, was started by Ali Clabburn.

Mr Clabburn set up the website, which now has over 250,000 members, after noting how many people drove to and from meetings he attended without anybody else in their car.

Now the company, which started in his parents' barn, is ready to move to a new home.

Mr Clabburn told the newspaper: "We've just got planning permission for the building. We wanted it to be carbon neutral because we care about what impact we have on the planet and if we don't set an example then we can't get others to change their behaviour and attitudes."

A report by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs reported that in 2006 road transport accounted for 22 per cent of the UK's total carbon emissions.

Road transport is the sector which has the greatest potential for reducing its carbon emissions, according to a Department for Transport strategy paper.

UK AWARE sponsors don't need to be from a 'green'
industry, but they do need to have a green outlook

Discuss   UK AWARE sponsors do not necessarily need to be from a 'green' industry. They do, however, need to have a genuine concern for environmental matters and conduct business in an appropriate manner.
