Following the massive price hikes announced by energy firms last week, a Suffolk MP has called for a rethink of the energy strategy.Suffolk Coastal MP John Gummer expressed his frustration that although a white paper had been written ten years ago addressing the growing demand for fossil fuels, nothing was done in preparation.British Gas, citing the rising cost of gas on the wholesale markets, followed EDF, and raised its price to customers by 35 percent.Mr Gummer said new sources of energy had to be found, though his approach will be criticised by green groups which claim that the full "capacity gap" can be met by renewable energy. He told the Evening Star: "We need to maximise the use of renewable energy and build a Sizewell C."He added: "We also need to help people individually with what they can do to insulate and reduce their energy needs."
