Low carbon houses are to be built in Dorset as part of a new development in the area.According to the Dorset Echo, over 50 properties are to be built on the Underhill site featuring the latest environmentally-friendly technology.Some 50 per cent of the energy for the houses will be produced by renewable sources, as well as a biomass boiler which will be used to provide heat and power for the site.Furthermore, solar insulation and an electric car share scheme will be in place for residents.The scheme will be overseen by Zero C and the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA).Bruce Voss, head of regeneration at the agency, said: "SWRDA is committed to making all its investments net zero carbon by 2013 and this is also a very important step in the wider development of a low carbon economy in the south-west."According to the Energy Saving Trust, energy consumption could be reduced further by using efficient appliances, which could save a collective £700 million a year.
