NIA: Insulation is effective in lowering fuel consumption

30 July 2008

NIA: Insulation is effective in lowering fuel consumption Insulating a property is one of the most effective ways to cut down on fuel consumption, according to the National Insulation Association (NIA).

With energy prices currently soaring, the NIA has advised homeowners to insulate their properties as a means of cutting costs.

Neil Marshall, chief executive of the NIA, said: "There has never been a better time than now to insulate your home. With fuel costs predicted to rise further, the financial benefits will be more evident than ever."

Mr Marshall suggested measures such as cavity, solid wall and loft insulation, as well as draught proofing for lower bills and a warmer home, adding that some £275 could be shaved off annual heating bills.

According to Energywatch, gas and electricity prices have increased by 94 per cent and 60 per cent respectively in the last three years.
