Eco improvements 'can attract home buyers'

22 July 2008

Eco improvements 'can attract home buyers' People looking to sell their home can benefit from making a number of eco improvements, it has been suggested.

According to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post, buyers are willing to shell out extra money for properties which are more energy efficient.

Commenting on the issue, Leeds estate agent Alan Cooke said: "Everyone is looking to make savings at the moment and if they can see that a house will cost less to run than another it's a big selling point."

Among the tips offered to home sellers are to install energy efficient boilers, invest in loft insulation and install a full set of heating controls.

In addition, putting in cavity wall insulation and getting heating from renewable sources are put forward as possible money-spinners for people looking to sell on their home, as well as those seeking to cut back on their utility bills.

Figures produced by the Energy Saving Trust suggest that boilers account for around 60 per cent of the carbon emissions in the average gas heated residence.
