ATUC: Carbon offsetting schemes are taking off
21 July 2008
More and more people are beginning to engage in carbon offsetting schemes in the UK, it has been claimed.
According to the Air Transport Users Council (ATUC), the number of people signing up to carbon mitigation initiatives is beginning to rise.
Although many people remained concerned about the price of flights, they can now fly responsibly thanks to a number of schemes that seek to negate the environmental impact of flying.
Indeed, James Fremantle, industry affairs manager at the ATUC, commented that British Airways's uptake has doubled in the last few months.
"They are starting to take off," he said.
"We certainly supported the scheme as a way passengers can marry up their environmental concerns and still be able to fly."
For every 4,000 miles flown by air travellers, one tonne of CO2 is produced, according to Ecotravelling.co.uk.
