Energy performance tips offered

18 July 2008

Energy performance tips offered Landlords in the UK have been advised to take a series of measures to improve their energy performance by one industry body.

The National Landlords Association (NLA) has suggested a number of ways in which landlords can make their properties low carbon ahead of the deadline for the acquisition of energy performance certificates.

Elizabeth Brogan, senior policy officer at the NLA, pointed to insulation as one of the main ways in which property owners can lower energy consumption. Ms Brogan said this was an effective way of reducing energy bills and is covered by the Landlord's Energy Saving Allowance.

In addition, she said that replacing boilers with more efficient models can significantly reduce carbon output.

"Replacing boilers with more energy efficient condensing combination boilers is a very good option and that will have a major impact on the energy efficiency of the property," she remarked.

The Sponge Sustainability Network recently revealed that 52 per cent of people would pay more for a property that exhibited environmentally-friendly features.
