Survey reveals motorist concern over emissions

17 July 2008

Survey reveals motorist concern over emissions UK motorists are concerned with reducing the emissions from their cars, according to a new survey.

Some 70 per cent of people have said that they are keen to reduce the amount of CO2 produced by their vehicles, research conducted by the British International Motor Show has revealed.

However, two-thirds of people claim to be confused as to how to go about cutting their emissions, with many exhibiting environmentally-unfriendly driving habits.

Areas of concern highlighted by the report included the fact that one-third of people said that they keep non-essential items in the boots of their cars. This adds to the weight of a vehicle, putting more pressure on the engine.

Inflating tyres and thereby reducing resistance and taking pressure off the engine was another way in which people could improve their driving habits, with a quarter of people failing to do so.

Reducing the amount of revs is also highlighted as a means to cut emissions from cars.

According to the ACTONCO2 site, these are all ways in which people can look after their cars, reduce carbon output and cut fuel bills.
