Low carbon vehicles used to transport G8 leaders

08 July 2008

Low carbon vehicles used to transport G8 leaders Several Japanese car manufacturers will be showcasing their low carbon vehicles at the G8 summit this year, it has been reported.

G8 leaders will be transported by environmentally-friendly vehicles, including a fleet of
electric plug-in cars, hybrids and hydrogen fuel cell cars, according to Reuters.

Mitsubishi aims to highlight the need to cut down on fuel consumption through the use of ten rechargeable minicars.

Kazunori Handa, engineer at Mitsubishi's MiEV department, remarked: "The car's popularity will centre on not using gas, the CO2 emission problem and concerns about energy security."

Among the other cars to be used at the event is the Honda FX Clarity, as well as Toyota's FCHV-adv and its 70 hybrid vehicles in addition to its hydrogen-fuelled buses.

Climate change, energy security and disaster reduction were among the environmental themes that opened the summit's discussions yesterday (July 7th).
