Environmental concerns top motivator for going green

Environmental concerns top motivator for going green People are more inclined to go green in the home if it will save them money as well as help the environment, it has been revealed.

Tescocompare.com has conducted research into the things that would make people more inclined to adopt energy efficient measures in the home.

It has revealed that the highest priority for homeowners was general concerns about the environment, with 56 per cent of people expressing that this was their main worry.

Meanwhile, cost and the potential of energy saving measures to cut monthly outgoings were highlighted as things that could persuade some 54 per cent of people to go green.

Tescocompare.com's director of commercial partnerships Paul Baxter said: "It is not surprising to see that homeowners are taking swift action to take advantage of the money savings to be had through being green."

Indeed, last week thisislondon.co.uk reported that a woman in Sussex has saved over £1,000 on her gas and electricity bills through adopted eco features such as insulation.

URBAN GROWTH
By the end of 2007 it is estimated that more people will live in cities than rural areas for the first time in history. The satellite image of the US city of Las Vegas (left) shows how rapidly metropolitan areas can grow. The city was home to 557,000 people in 1985, by 2004 this had risen to nearly 1.7 million. This rapid growth can put pressure on water resources and infrastructure.

Discuss   UK AWARE sponsors do not necessarily need to be from a 'green' industry. They do, however, need to have a genuine concern for environmental matters and conduct business in an appropriate manner.
