Tynemouth beach is set to be given a summer clean by eco-conscious surfers next month, the Evening Chronicle has reported.A beach cleanup tour hosted by Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) is set to last for one week and is intended to encourage people to keep their local beaches in the region tidy and safe."This tour gives beach-lovers a great opportunity to make a real and very positive difference on their local beach," said Andy Cummins, campaign officer for SAS.He added: "The beach cleans we organise are really enjoyable, educational and are a great way to bring local people from all walks of life together."SAS has adopted the Porthtowan beach in Cornwall under the Marine Conservation Society's Beachwatch scheme.Every year, the group records its marine litter cleanup for a national survey. In addition, the group carries out four other beach cleans on an annual basis.
