A winemaker plans to harness the power of the wind and ship eco-friendly wines to Ireland using a 108-year-old sailing ship.Fair Wind Wine will see its first shipment, carrying more than 12,000 bottles, arrive in Dublin on July 25th aboard the Kathleen & May schooner, Business Green reports.The company calculates that by using a traditional sailing ship to transport the wine some 4.9 ounces of carbon emissions will be saved per bottle.Frederic Albert, president of Fair Wind Wine, told Business Green: "With oil prices at an all-time high, our company will be able to ship goods at low rates by using sailing ships."He said the wine itself is eco-friendly because it has originated from vineyards which adopt sustainable agricultural policies.Meanwhile South African winemaker Arniston Bay is also going green by launching a new pouch packaging, which the company claims reduces the carbon footprint of its wines by 80 percent.
