DJ Reggie Yates: Individuals should take responsibility for recycling

26 June 2008

DJ Reggie Yates: Individuals should take responsibility for recycling Individuals must take responsibility for recycling without waiting for public figures to raise awareness of it, the Beverage Can Makers Association (BCMA) has said.

Radio 1 DJ and actor Reggie Yates, acting as BCMA spokesperson, said that "we as individuals need to take it upon ourselves", urging people not to look for musicians and media personalities to promote the issue.

While acknowledging that public figures helped, he said it was important to talk to children and families about it, and encourage it in school.

According to the BCMA, if all 100,000 people attending the London's O2 Wireless Festival recycled a can, it could power the stage for 34 hours.

If the 10,000 people expected at Wales' Green Man festival all recycle one, the stage could be powered for three hours
.
And a can recycled by every one of the 30,000 people expected at The Big Chill in the West Midlands could power the stage for ten hours.

In February, music industry campaign group AGreenerFestival.com published a survey which found that 80 percent of UK music fans thought festival noise had an environmental impact.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18657991-ADNFCR
