A new 'carbon negative' community is set to be the first of its kind in the north-east of England. The proposed eco-village development is being planned by the Three Rivers Housing Association, which has previously been applauded for its work on rural housing developments and regeneration efforts.Sustainability is a key factor of the proposed community. Apartments and townhouses in the new development will be built to the highest standards outlined in the Code for Sustainable Homes, according to the Green Building Press. In addition, all properties will face to the south in order to maximise passive solar gain, with both solar panels and wind turbines onsite to generate power. The community will also feature open spaces, seating areas, pedestrian walkways and cycle paths, while a rainwater storage system will be used for laundry, toilets and sprinkler systems.Plans for the new carbon negative community are currently being carried out in association with Sunderland's Fitz Architects and Groundworks, which is based in South Tyneside.
