Brits anticipate 'tougher emissions targets'

A new survey has indicated that 62 percent of people in the UK are expecting tough carbon emissions legislation to be enforced by the year 2050.

The study, which was released today (June 25th) by the Energy Saving Trust (EST), indicated that people have a number of opinions on the UK's carbon emissions targets.

Of the people surveyed, 41 percent stated they felt that a 'carbon police force' will be needed in the UK to monitor carbon emissions by 2050, while one-quarter anticipated energy addiction classes and energy rehab programmes will be part of Britain's future.

The EST carried out the research as part of a new report entitled Emission Impossible? A vision for a low carbon lifestyle by 2050. It asserts that by taking simple steps now, Brits can help achieve ambitious long-term emission reduction goals without sacrificing their quality of life.

"Our report outlines the Energy Saving Trust's vision for achieving a low-carbon lifestyle by 2050 where we meet our 80 per cent reduction targets without adopting austere lifestyles or making unpleasant personal sacrifices," said EST chief executive Phillip Sellwood.

The EST's current campaign aims to encourage people to save energy at home.
