Newspaper offers strategies to save energy at home

24 June 2008

Newspaper offers strategies to save energy at home As the cost of gas and electricity bills is predicted to soar, families could take measures to ensure that they are paying as little as possible.

The Daily Telegraph asserts that there are measures individuals can take reduce their gas and electricity outgoings, many of which could have a positive effect on the environment.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, switching off electrical equipment rather than leaving it on standby could reduce electricity bills by eight percent, while wearing a jumper and turning down the thermostat one degree will cut heating bills by ten percent.

Opting for eco-friendly appliances can also have an impact on gas and electricity costs, the newspaper claims.

It advises considering appliances' energy rating, which should be noted on the label, when making a purchase.

Meanwhile, the Energy Saving Trust claims that energy saving light bulbs use 80 percent less electricity than a standard bulb.

It adds that switching every bulb in the house could lead to savings of up to £45 a year.
