Eco-style helps people make homes more sustainable

In the past, sustainability and style have not mixed well. But advances in technology and increased concern about global warming mean homeowners can now be both eco-friendly and fashionable.

According to an article by ARAContent, there are a number of simple measures householders can take to improve the energy efficiency of their home without compromising attractive interior design.

Restoring vintage furniture is more environmentally friendly than buying new items and can add charm and flair to any home. Similarly, buying chemical-free home furnishings or ones made from renewable or reclaimed materials can make a big green impact.

And when it comes to appliances, energy efficient showers, sinks and boilers can cut water use substantially, while energy efficient lightbulbs can reduce electricity.

The Energy Savings Trust says energy efficient lightbulbs use up to 80 per cent less electricity than standard bulbs and last ten times longer. They also now come in a range of stylish designs to fit a variety of lampshades and light fittings.

"By making energy-saving improvements and incorporating sustainable and organic materials, you'll have lower bills, a healthier house and proof that you can live green without sacrificing style or comfort," the article reads.
