Toyota addresses climate change in Green Month

17 June 2008

Toyota addresses climate change in Green Month Car giant Toyota has implemented a range of environmentally-friendly initiatives for its annual Green Month this June.

Toyota GB has set itself a 95 percent waste recycling target.

All staff members have been given USB sticks to reduce paper use and reusable water bottles, while investment in new software has reduced the number of computer servers used by 90 percent.

Lighting in the building has been reprogrammed to an "off" default setting.

Toyota is also investing $1 million (£512,000) an hour globally into new technology to cut vehicular impact on the environment, such as new plug-in hybrid vehicle technology and more advanced fuel cell vehicles.

Managing director of Toyota GB Miguel Fonseca said addressing climate change was a "top priority for Toyota".

A battery shortage is hampering production of the firm's Prius, Associated Press (AP) reports.

Demand is booming for the green car, leaving the manufacturer struggling to match it with supply.

Toyota executive vice-president Takeshi Uchiyamada told AP the company was trying to increase production and needed new lines because "hybrids are selling so well".ADNFCR-1235-ID-18643188-ADNFCR

industry, but they do need to have a green outlook

Discuss   UK AWARE sponsors do not necessarily need to be from a 'green' industry. They do, however, need to have a genuine concern for environmental matters and conduct business in an appropriate manner.
