Low carbon packaging launched by wine producer

16 June 2008

Low carbon packaging launched by wine producer A South African drinks producer is planning to launch a new environmentally-friendly wine package in the UK.

Arniston Bay has produced a pouch-style package for its drinks, which it claims to have a substantially smaller carbon footprint than traditional glass bottles.

The company conducted a life cycle analysis on the packaging and found that even if wine bottles are recycled, the pouch has less of an impact on the environment.

Among the reasons for this is the fact that the pouch is significantly lighter than a bottle, helping to reduce the impact of transporting it from South Africa to the UK.

The pouch also has a practical benefit for wine buyers as it helps to keep the drink fresh for up to a month after being opened.

Arniston Bay's launch marketing campaign in the UK will consist of newspaper competitions and giveaways at railway stations, reports the Appointment.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18640241-ADNFCR

WATER
The availability of fresh water will decline, according to the UN, who project that by 2025 1.8bn people will be affected by water scarcity. Sanitation is also a major issue, as contaminated water is the greatest single cause of human disease and death. The state of the world's fisheries is also touched on by the report which says many fish stocks are overexploited, while the demand for fish is expected to rise alongside growing populations.

Discuss   UK AWARE sponsors do not necessarily need to be from a 'green' industry. They do, however, need to have a genuine concern for environmental matters and conduct business in an appropriate manner.
