Green transport projects to receive £23 million in funding

09 May 2008

Green transport projects to receive £23 million in funding Some £23 million of government funding will be allocated to a number of green transport projects, meaning lower-carbon vehicles could be made available on roads in the UK within the next five to seven years.

The Low Carbon Vehicles Innovation Platform - which includes funding from both the Department for Transport and the Technology Strategy Board - will work to support a total of 16 new projects in the UK, comprising research, development and demonstration of low carbon car technology.

It is thought that the total value of these investment projects could reach £52 million including investments by the various companies involved, the Technology Strategy Board estimated this week.

Aims of the project include the acceleration of the introduction of low-carbon road transport vehicles in the UK, as well as maximising the benefit that this acceleration would bring to British business.

In related news, Chemistry World reported this week that zero carbon buildings are also to be supported through government funding, with a £4 million funding competition for businesses set to launch on May 15th.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18587820-ADNFCR

Discuss   UK AWARE sponsors do not necessarily need to be from a 'green' industry. They do, however, need to have a genuine concern for environmental matters and conduct business in an appropriate manner.
