Swapping regular light bulbs for energy efficient ones does not compromise the look or feel of a home, the chief executive of the Energy Saving Trust (EST) has claimed.Following the results of the EST's Light Bulb Challenge - which found that 53 per cent of 761 shoppers in Kent could not tell the difference between light from a regular or energy saving bulb - Phillip Sellwood claimed the public is beginning to realise that energy efficient bulbs have come a long way since they were first developed."It's true that a few years ago energy saving light bulbs were pretty ugly looking and didn't provide good light. That's certainly a thing of the past," he said.Mr Sellwood added that if people changed all their remaining light bulbs to energy saving ones, they could save up to 2.7 tonnes of carbon dioxide and around £600.According to the EST, the Light Bulb Challenge results have coincided with a separate UK study which indicated that 80 per cent of people who already use energy efficient light bulbs at home are happy with the results.The group has previously claimed that each energy saving light bulb can save up to £7 and 26kg of carbon dioxide emissions.
